KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe on Monday said the party would play a constructive and active role as the main opposition in the House of Representatives, with a focus on safeguarding national interests and holding the government accountable.
Speaking at an interaction with journalists covering parliamentary affairs at the party’s parliamentary office, Angdembe said the Congress would ensure the ruling side remained answerable to both Parliament and the public.
He said the party would work with all opposition forces to prevent parliamentary committees from becoming stalled due to political deadlock.
“As the main opposition, we have been coordinating with all opposition parties while allowing the House’s daily business to move forward despite our differences,” Angdembe said. “We will continue to raise questions in Parliament, register proposals and work seriously through parliamentary committees while ensuring the government remains accountable to Parliament and the people.”
Chief Whip Basana Thapa also stressed the need for regular interactions with the media, saying such engagements would help improve the effectiveness of Parliament.
