18 dead bodies retrieved in Sindhupalchowk landslide

SINDHUPALCHOWK: Two more bodies were recovered from the site of the landslide that buried many houses in Lidi of Jugal rural municipality-2.

With this, the casualty in the Friday morning landslide has now reached 18.

Eleven bodies had been retrieved the same morning, while seven were found on Saturday, according to District Police Office Spokesperson Madhav Prasad Kafley. On Saturday, the bodies of locals Mekmai Dong,37, Man Bahadur Dong,30, Maila Parang Dong,16, Laxmi Dong,11, Chyama Dong,11, Bimala Dong,11 and seven-months-old Kabir Dong were recovered from the landslide debris.

Altogether, 35 houses were buried in the landslide that took place in Lidi. Altogether, 39 persons had gone missing along with the houses buried in the landslide. A search for the remaining is underway.

Meanwhile, the disaster management committee has decided to provide a relief assistance of Rs. 100,000 each to the family that lost a member in the disaster, along with Rs. 25,000 for cremation, according to the rural municipality Chair Hom Narayan Shrestha.

Likewise, children rendered orphan in the incident will receive free education up to Grade 12, along with boarding facilities.
