NHRC seeks clarification from RSP over membership of minors

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought clarification and detailed information from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) regarding reports that the party distributed membership to individuals under the age of 18.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the Commission said its attention had been drawn to media reports alleging that minors had been enrolled as party members. It stated that it had formally written to the RSP on Asar 17, 2083 (July 1, 2026), requesting an explanation along with the necessary details.

According to the Commission, its preliminary assessment indicates that the reported distribution of party membership to children under 18 raises serious concerns related to children’s rights.

The NHRC said it has also sought information from the relevant government agencies and other stakeholders as part of its ongoing inquiry into the matter.

The Commission added that any decisions or recommendations will be made based on the facts and evidence collected during the investigation, while emphasizing that the study has been given high priority in line with the protection of children’s rights and the enforcement of existing legal provisions.
