Social media post trigger violence in India’s Bengaluru, 3 killed, 200 cars burnt



BENGALURU: A Facebook post mentioning communal remarks sparked violent clashes in India’s Bengaluru last night with mob vandalizing a police station and the residence of a Congress MLA.

Three people died in the clashes while 60 police personnel have been injured after being attacked by mobs, Indian media reports have said.

The night-long tension followed arson and vandalism in Bengaluru, police said. A person named Naveen, whose social media post sparked vandalism, has been arrested.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said that the accused Naveen has been arrested for sharing some derogatory posts on social media.

Police also arrested as many as 145 people in connection with the violence.
