11 die in fire at coronavirus facility in India

NEW DELHI: At least 11 people were killed and 30 others rescued when a massive fire broke out at a coronavirus facility in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada this morning.

The state Fire Safety Director Jayram Naik said the Swarna Palace Hotel had violated fire safety rules, Indian media reports have said.

According to Naik, the alarm bell didn’t ring at the time of the incident.

He added that there was also a delay in opening the back door.

Naik said investigation has been initiated and the authorities will take action on hotel management, reports said.

According to authorities, permission to use this hotel as a facility for coronavirus patients was given subjected to the hospital management procuring all possible permissions.
