Vikas Dubey killed in encounter in Kanpur



LUCKNOW: Vikas Dubey, the main accused in the ambush and the killing of eight police personnel in the Kanpur encounter case, has been killed in an encounter in Kanpur.

The encounter between Dubey and Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) broke out when the former tried to escape upon reaching Kanpur.

Vikas suffered some bullets shots and later succumbed to his injuries. Dubey has officially been declared dead, Indian media reports have said.

He was arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, and reached Kanpur on Friday morning.

When the Uttar Pradesh STF convoy reached Kanpur, Dubey snatched a pistol of a policeman and tried to escape, resulting in the encounter.

Four police constables have sustained injuries.
