Labour Ministry allows health checks for migrant workers at any govt-approved hospital

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has allowed migrant workers traveling abroad to undergo health examinations at any government-recognized hospital.

The decision was made during a ministerial meeting on Tuesday, led by Minister Deepak Kumar Sah. The meeting also decided to open registration for health institutions willing to conduct examinations for foreign-bound workers and to follow the procedures outlined under Section 3 of the Health Institution Registration, Renewal and Monitoring Procedure, 2015.

Krishna Prasad Bajgain, General Secretary of the Nepal Medical Professionals Association, welcomed the government’s move to implement the procedure but emphasized that private-sector health institutions and practitioners need proper regulation.

Currently, 194 health institutions have been renewed according to the ministry’s standards, and these facilities have been conducting medical tests for workers seeking employment abroad.
