UML leader Devendra Dahal urges voters to reject candidates behind destruction during Gen-Z protests

DAMAK: Devendra Dahal, election commander and central committee member of the CPN-UML, has urged voters not to support candidates responsible for orchestrating destruction of public and private property worth over Rs 150 billion.

Addressing a meeting organized by the UML’s Mankamana Tole Committee in Damak-8, Dahal referred to the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, stating that individuals like Balen Shah, who allegedly instigated vandalism from closed rooms, should not be elected.

Dahal praised UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, highlighting his “incomparable” contributions to local and national development, as well as his role in protecting sovereignty and nationalism.

Speaking under the chairmanship of Mankamana Tole Committee head Postnath Niraula, Dahal warned that development in the country, local wards, and communities would remain incomplete if voters supported candidates lacking political vision and intent. He urged participants to vote for the UML’s Sun symbol to ensure progress in the nation and region.

Responding to questions from senior party workers and supporters at the meeting, Dahal explained why land distribution work in Damak-8 was delayed. He said that although the UML and Congress governments had prepared for this, the Sushila Karki-led government, formed after the Gen-Z movement, had dissolved the relevant commission, delaying the process. He noted that work resumed after the Supreme Court reinstated the commission but criticized the government for not deploying staff to facilitate its functions.

Ahead of the upcoming election in Jhapa-5, where Chairman Oli is contesting, the UML has formed ward and tole committees in all 29 wards to intensify its election campaign.
