Motipur and Mayurdhap Industrial Zones to be handed to private sector

KATHMANDU: The government has announced that the private sector will be entrusted with the construction and operation of industrial zones, including Motipur and Mayurdhap.

The Confederation of Nepalese Industries has already proposed developing industrial zones in Motipur and Mayurdhap. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said priority will be given to women entrepreneurs in the Panchkhal Special Economic Zone.

“We will provide additional concessional credit flow to women entrepreneurs. We will establish a special economic administration system where all decisions related to taxes, customs, imports, and investment in the special economic zone will be handled from a single point,” Finance Minister Wagle said while presenting the budget.

The budget statement also states that electricity demand charges will be reviewed, and tariff discounts will be provided to improve the competitiveness of manufacturing industries. It further notes that industrialists will be allowed to use infrastructure built in industrial zones, special economic zones, and leased land as collateral for bank financing.

Industries and businesses facing underutilization due to lack of capital will be supported through business revival loans to expand their capacity. The government also aims to promote new enterprises, startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship as key drivers of economic transformation.

An automated “route” system will be implemented within three months under the “Investment Express” initiative. According to the budget, services including company and industry registration, financial services, tax system integration, and visa processing will be interconnected, along with provisions for information access, compliance reporting, and risk-based monitoring.
