KATHMANDU: The government has allocated Rs 32.46 billion for chemical fertiliser subsidies in the upcoming fiscal year, aiming to ensure the supply of essential agricultural inputs.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, while presenting the federal budget in Parliament, said the allocation is intended to support the import and distribution of chemical fertilisers required for agricultural production.
Nepal currently relies entirely on imported fertilisers, with the government providing annual subsidies worth billions of rupees to maintain supply. In the current fiscal year, Rs 28.82 billion had been allocated for the same purpose.
The government also stated that it will explore the possibility of establishing domestic fertiliser production facilities through feasibility studies, continuing previous policy directions aimed at reducing import dependence in the long term.
