KATHMANDU: The government has allocated Rs 101.95 billion for the health sector in the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget in the Federal Parliament on Friday.
He said the allocation prioritizes expansion of health services, social security programmes, and health infrastructure development.
The government has set aside Rs 15 billion for the health insurance programme and Rs 13.15 billion for social health security initiatives.
The budget also aims to complete 336 under-construction basic hospitals within the next three years. For preparatory work and scientific mapping of hospitals yet to begin construction, Rs 5.9 billion has been allocated.
To improve healthcare access in remote areas, telemedicine services will be expanded in Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
At the federal level, burn treatment centres will be established under specialised hospital services. Kidney treatment services and trauma centres will also be operated at Madhesh Province Hospital.
The government has also announced free treatment for children with cancer, framing the package as a key step toward expanding healthcare access, strengthening treatment capacity, and improving social protection coverage.
