Govt to upgrade major hospitals into medical universities



KATHMANDU: The government has unveiled a plan to transform three major health institutions into international-standard medical universities.

Presenting the federal budget for Fiscal Year 2026/27, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said that Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Bir Hospital under the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS), and Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) will be upgraded and restructured into world-class medical universities.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening medical education, advancing research, and improving healthcare services, while also positioning Nepal as a regional hub for medical studies.
