Govt launches voluntary campaign to forgo social security allowance for able citizens

KATHMANDU: The government has announced a voluntary campaign encouraging financially capable citizens to opt out of social security allowances.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026/27 in a joint session of the Federal Parliament.

He said the initiative, framed under the slogan “those who can give, give up; those who need, be supported,” aims to better target social protection benefits toward genuinely needy groups.

The announcement was made during the ongoing budget speech in both houses of the Federal Parliament.
