Govt to prioritise mathematics education from school level

KATHMANDU: The government has announced that mathematics education will be given higher priority in schools in line with the needs of the technology era.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026/27 in the joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday.

He said that development in the IT sector is impossible without strengthening foundational knowledge in mathematics.

“Without the development of the IT sector, national development is not possible. For that, students need to be strong in mathematics. Therefore, it is necessary to develop interest in mathematics from the primary level,” he said, adding that the government will take initiatives to promote math learning among students from an early stage.
