Nepal to ease foreign investment rules and simplify business exit process

KATHMANDU: The government has announced measures to relax restrictions on Nepali citizens investing abroad while also streamlining procedures for closing companies.

Presenting the federal budget for Fiscal Year 2026/27 in a joint session of Parliament on Friday, Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said the government will introduce provisions to make it easier for Nepali citizens to pursue legal foreign investment opportunities.

At the same time, the budget seeks to create a more investment-friendly domestic environment by addressing long-standing concerns of entrepreneurs across the full business lifecycle. Dr. Wagle announced that company liquidation and closure processes will be simplified and made less burdensome.

Previously, shutting down a business in Nepal was widely considered a lengthy and complicated procedure, often taking years and requiring entrepreneurs to navigate extensive legal and administrative hurdles.
