Finance Minister Wagle carries Nepali handmade paper file for budget speech

KATHMANDU: Swarnim Wagle arrived at the Parliament building carrying a file made from Nepali handmade paper ahead of presenting the national budget.

According to his secretariat, finance ministers have traditionally carried briefcases while delivering budget speeches, but Waglé broke with that practice by choosing a locally made paper file.

In previous years, former finance ministers Barshaman Pun and Bishnu Paudel had presented the budget carrying bags made from Nepali allo fiber.

This time, however, Waglé opted for a file produced from Nepali paper products.

His secretariat said the choice was aimed at promoting domestic products and presenting a simple, affordable, and locally rooted image.

Usually seen in a coat and trousers during official appearances, Waglé arrived at Parliament this time wearing a traditional daura suruwal with a coat.

He is scheduled to present the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2083/84 later today.
