Former President Bhandari calls for unity to build self-reliant economy

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has called for a firm commitment to making the values and principles of the democratic republic more mature, effective and result-oriented.

Extending heartfelt greetings to Nepali citizens at home and abroad on the occasion of the 19th Republic Day, she wished for peace, happiness, prosperity and continued progress.

She said, “On this auspicious occasion of Republic Day, I call upon all state bodies, political parties and the public to remain committed to strengthening the values and norms of the federal democratic republic in a more mature and result-oriented manner.”

Stating that the national priorities should now focus on good governance, economic prosperity and social justice, Former President Bhandari stressed the need for collective efforts to build a self-reliant economy while safeguarding national independence, unity and territorial integrity.

Describing Jestha 15 as a historic and unforgettable day in Nepal’s political history, she paid tribute to all known and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the course of democratic movements. She also expressed respect for leaders who played key roles in various struggles for civil liberty and the establishment of the republic.

She said, “The establishment of a republic is not merely a change in political system, but a means to bring positive transformation in the living standards of the Nepali people and ensure inclusive representation at all levels of the state. The true essence of a republic is realized only when poor, marginalized and excluded citizens feel that ‘the state is my refuge’ and that they are respected citizens of the country.”
