KATHMANDU: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has urged individuals, groups and organizations not to collect money without authorization in the name of flood victims, warning that those involved will face action in accordance with the law.
The OPMCM said it has received complaints that individuals, groups and organizations have been forcefully collecting money from various areas in the name of providing financial support for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of citizens affected by the Bhotekoshi flash flood.
Taking note of such activities, the OPMCM urged all concerned not to collect funds without authorization.
The Prime Minister’s Office has also expressed serious concern over reports that some individuals, groups and organizations are collecting money by publicly sharing unauthorized QR codes and personal bank account numbers.
“We sincerely request you to provide financial support only to officially announced accounts and QR codes to ensure transparent use, proper management and protection from potential financial fraud in this difficult situation,” reads a statement issued by OPMCM spokesperson Hemraj Aryal.
The government has officially requested the public to deposit financial contributions only into the accounts of the two funds currently designated to receive assistance.
Under the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, contributions can be made through the following accounts:
