Plan to move probe commission chief Karki to army barracks for security

KATHMANDU: Authorities are preparing to move Gauri Bahadur Karki, head of the probe commission formed to investigate the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24, to an army barracks for security reasons.

Officials said the decision is being considered to ensure his safety amid the growing political tensions.

Security has already been tightened around Karki’s residence in Gundu. A large number of personnel from Nepal Police have been deployed in the area.
Earlier on Saturday, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung held discussions with the chiefs of the country’s security agencies at Singha Durbar.

The developments come after police arrested former prime minister KP Sharma Oli and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak earlier in the day.

Following Oli’s arrest, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist) announced nationwide protest programmes.
