Oli, Lekhak to be produced in court on Sunday

KATHMANDU: KP Sharma Oli, former prime minister and chair of the CPN-UML, and former home minister Ramesh Lekhak will be presented in court on Sunday, police said.

Both leaders were arrested on Saturday morning and are currently being held at the Kathmandu District Police Range. As courts remain closed on Saturday, authorities plan to produce them before the court on Sunday.

The arrests followed a decision by the government led by Balendra Shah to implement recommendations made by a probe commission investigating the Gen-Z movement.

The commission, headed by former justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, had recommended criminal action against Oli, Lekhak and other officials under relevant provisions of criminal law.

Based on the commission’s recommendation, police detained the two leaders. Prior to his arrest, Oli was also served an arrest warrant for investigation into charges related to offenses against life.
