Arrest politically biased, I will fight legally: Lekhak

KATHMANDU: Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has stated that he will challenge his arrest both politically and legally, claiming it was carried out in a retaliatory and biased manner.

He made the remarks after being taken into custody by police from his residence in Katunje, Bhaktapur, on Saturday morning.

“I have been arrested in a completely politically biased and retaliatory manner. I am ready to fight a political and legal battle against this,” Lekhak said. He added that arresting individuals based on Cabinet decisions undermines the law.

“These arrests have been made based on a decision of the Cabinet. This has never happened anywhere else in the world,” he remarked.

Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has also described his arrest as vindictive.

However, Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has emphasized that no one is above the law. Posting on social media after the arrests of Oli and Lekhak, Gurung stated that the action is not retaliatory but marks the beginning of justice.
