Nepali Congress proposes public debate among prime ministerial candidates on March 2

POKHARA: The Nepali Congress has proposed a public debate among candidates aspiring to become prime minister in the government to be formed after the House of Representatives election.

The party suggested holding the debate at Khulamanch in Kathmandu on March 2, coinciding with the Holi festival. It also proposed celebrating Holi together and discussing the agenda for the five-year term of the Parliament to be formed after the election.

The proposal was put forward by Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma while addressing an election rally organized by the party in Pokhara, Kaski on Friday.

“Marxh 2 is Holi. On that day, let us hold a public debate among the prime ministerial candidates at an open मंच,” Sharma said. “Let us celebrate Holi together. This is the Nepali Congress proposal. Are other parties ready?”

During his address, Sharma said his party wants to bring change to the country and stressed that no political party competing in the election should be treated as an enemy.

He said that since parties will have to work together in government and opposition after the election, they should not behave as enemies during the campaign.

Sharma emphasized that issues related to giving the country a way forward should become key subjects of debate during the election.

“We want to change the country. Therefore, let us first change politics,” he said. “The Nepali Congress has made this commitment. We want to change politics — its style and its culture. In this election मैदान, we have no enemies. The parties competing today will have to work together tomorrow in government and opposition. Therefore, from party platforms, let us spread love, not insults. The election field is not an arena of hostility; it is a grand platform of personality and competition.”

He also said the election platform should not be used as an opportunity to provoke violence.
