KARNALI: Major highways and roads in Karnali Province have been blocked by landslides triggered by incessant rainfall from Saturday evening to Sunday morning.
According to Santosh Singh Rathore, spokesperson for the Karnali Province Police Office, Surkhet, and senior superintendent of police, both the Karnali Corridor, which connects Humla via Surkhet, Dailekh, Kalikot and Bajura, and the Karnali Highway, which links Jumla and Mugu via Surkhet, Dailekh and Kalikot, have been obstructed.
The roads have been blocked by landslides at Khacha in Sarkegad Rural Municipality-1, Humla; Gagane Khola and S-Mod in Shubhakalika Rural Municipality-1, Kalikot; and Aulise in Barahatal Rural Municipality-7, Surkhet.
Similarly, a landslide at Samlekhola in Sanibheri Rural Municipality-2, Rukum West, has blocked the Mid-Hill Highway, while another landslide at Kharkhola in Kapurkot Rural Municipality-5, Salyan, has obstructed the Rapti Highway.
Rathore said a landslide at Ryale in Bangad Kupinde Municipality-8, Salyan, has blocked the Surkhet-Salyan road, while another at Dhungebagar in Tribeni Rural Municipality-3 has disrupted the Luham-Kalimati road.
Road sections at Lewabhir in Chhedagad Municipality-4, Jajarkot; Bhigum in Tilagufa Municipality-1, Kalikot; Bairanka and Rankagaun in Tatopani Rural Municipality-1, Jumla; and the Gamgadhi-Nagm road section at Pina in Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7 and 8, Mugu, have also been blocked.
Rathore said the Road Division offices have deployed JCBs, excavators and other equipment from Jumla, Jajarkot, Salyan and Surkhet to clear the landslides and restore road connectivity.
