Oli seeks Gen-Z protest probe report from Human Rights Commission

Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has written to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), requesting a copy of the investigation report and related documents concerning the Gen-Z movement. In the letter, Oli argued that the Commission’s decision and conclusions appeared contradictory and maintained that he has the right to know the facts and basis behind the findings. Referring to the incidents of Bhadra 23, 2082 BS, Oli stated that schoolchildren had allegedly been used as human shields to attack the Parliament building, breach police barricades and spread disorder. He further claimed that on the following day, Bhadra 24, violent incidents including arson, vandalism and looting took place across the country, targeting state institutions, security agencies, government offices, political party offices, media outlets and private residences of political leaders.

Labour Minister urges Saudi Arabia not to disrupt visa processing for Nepali workers

Minister for Youth and Employment Ramji Yadav has urged Saudi Arabia to ensure that the visa process for Nepali workers remains unaffected amid plans to implement a skill verification process. During a courtesy meeting with Saudi Ambassador to Nepal Fahd Mohammad A. Mnikhr, Minister Yadav requested the immediate suspension of the proposed Skill Verification Program (SVP) for Nepali workers. He stressed that the implementation of the process should not disrupt visa issuance and called for existing visa procedures to continue without interruption.

Rs 1112 billion collected in revenue so far

With 19 days left for the current fiscal year to come to an end, the government has achieved 75.17 percent progress in its revenue collection targets for the year. According to the Office of the Comptroller General, which maintains the government’s daily budgetary accounts, revenue collection of Rs 1112 billion has been achieved till last Friday. The government had set a target of collecting revenue worth Rs 1480 billion for the current fiscal year. It will have to collect Rs 367.5 billion in the remaining 19 days to meet the target. Among the various headings, the government has achieved 76.20 percent progress in tax revenue collection. Out of the target of Rs 1325 billion, Rs 1010 billion has been collected so far.

Former ANFA president Karma Tsering Sherpa arrested

Police arrested former All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) president Karma Tsering Sherpa on Friday evening in connection with an alleged fraud and criminal breach of trust case. A team from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police apprehended Sherpa as part of an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Rs 87.8 million from Tungaram International Academy in Hattigauda. According to CIB spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police Anup Shumsher J.B. Rana, Sherpa is accused of misappropriating school funds and causing financial losses while serving as the institution’s executive head.

Araniko Highway to close at night for 15 days from July 6

The Dhulikhel–Khawa section of the Araniko Highway will remain closed during nighttime for 15 days from July 6 to facilitate ongoing road upgrading and blacktopping works. The District Security Committee decided to halt vehicle movement along the section from July 6 to 20, restricting operations at night to accelerate construction. Under the decision, tipper trucks and heavy cargo vehicles will be completely barred from entering the road section during the period. Passenger and other freight vehicles will also be restricted from operating between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am.

Sudurpashchim CM Shah calls for stronger inter-agency coordination to enhance public security

Sudurpashchim Province Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah has stressed the need for stronger coordination and collaboration among all concerned agencies to ensure the security of citizens and the state. Addressing the inauguration of the Sudurpashchim Province-Level Crime Investigation Review Seminar in Dhangadhi on Saturday, Shah said safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, as well as protecting the state, is a shared responsibility of the government, security agencies, the judiciary, and the media. He noted that all state institutions are complementary to one another and that effective results can only be achieved through mutual cooperation and coordination.

Bird flu spreads in Kathmandu Valley, confirmed at 82 sites across 11 districts

Bird flu infections are rising across Nepal, with outbreaks confirmed at 82 locations in 11 districts, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance and disease control measures. According to the Department of Livestock Services, the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza has spread rapidly in the Kathmandu Valley over the past three months, with the highest risk currently concentrated in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kavrepalanchok. The outbreak was first detected in Morang in March and has since spread to Jhapa, Sunsari, Mahottari, Bara, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kavrepalanchok.

158 depositors of troubled Tulsi Cooperative receive savings refund: Minister Rawal

Minister of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal has announced that 158 depositors of the troubled Tulsi Cooperative have received refunds of their savings. In a Facebook post on Saturday, Minister Rawal said the government is continuing its efforts to return depositors’ money using funds recovered through loan collection and the management of assets belonging to crisis-hit cooperative institutions. According to the minister, the refunds to 158 Tulsi Cooperative depositors were made under the same recovery and repayment process. Rawal said the government is implementing the repayment programme in accordance with existing legal provisions, ensuring that funds recovered from problematic cooperatives through loan recovery and asset management are returned to their respective depositors.

Regional seminar urges stronger cross-border cooperation to curb waste trafficking

A regional seminar in Kathmandu has called for stronger cross-border cooperation among law enforcement agencies, customs authorities and international organizations to combat the growing threat of waste trafficking in South and Southeast Asia. The two-day seminar, held on June 24–25, was jointly organized by the Embassy of France in Nepal and the French Homeland Security Service of the Embassy of France in India, building on the success of a regional seminar on wildlife trafficking held in Nepal in 2024. The event brought together officials from Nepal’s Department of Customs, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, the Ministry of Forests and Environment, and the Ministry of Home Affairs, alongside representatives from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam.

Snake rescuer warns against social media stunts, urges public awareness over viral content

Veteran snake rescuer Yamlal Kandel has warned that the growing trend of untrained content creators handling snakes for social media views is putting lives at risk, following several incidents involving dangerous reptiles. Speaking to Khabarhub, Kandel, who has been rescuing snakes since 2009, said many individuals are attempting to rescue highly venomous species, particularly king cobras, without proper training, simply to generate online engagement. “Snake videos attract a lot of viewers because people are fascinated by dangerous animals,” he said. “Some creators unnecessarily stress and mishandle snakes just to increase views and monetize their content.”
