Pradip Paudel hopes govt remains popular, raises concerns over eviction drive

KATHMANDU: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Pradip Paudel, has expressed hope that the government formed with a strong public mandate does not become unpopular.

Speaking to reporters while heading to the party’s Central Working Committee meeting at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Monday, Paudel said he felt the recent actions against squatters may have lacked adequate preparation.

“The government’s working style should not create fear among citizens or generate frustration. We want this government to perform well,” he said.

However, he clarified that the party does not hold the position that squatters should not be removed, nor does it believe all those affected are genuine squatters.

The Central Working Committee meeting is currently underway at the party office in Sanepa. Although scheduled for 11 am, the meeting began around 1 pm.

Party leaders are discussing contemporary political issues, including governance style and ongoing administrative actions of the government.
