KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Home Minister Sudan Gurung has directed officials to ensure simplified public service delivery and adopt a strict zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Assuming office at the Ministry of Home Affairs today, Gurung instructed staff to make services more efficient and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in corrupt practices.
“There will be zero tolerance for corruption. Any demand for bribes will not be tolerated,” he said.
Emphasizing his commitment to public service, the Home Minister urged officials to implement a single-window system to ensure faster and more accessible service delivery. He stressed the need to end the practice of citizens having to move from one office to another to access services.
“Service delivery must be our top priority. The situation where service seekers have to move from one desk to another must end. People should not have to approach individual staff members to get their work done. This is how good governance can be ensured,” he said.
Gurung also called for full implementation of Cabinet decisions, stating that no official has the discretion to ignore government directives. Referring to recent political changes, he said they reflect the aspirations of the younger generation and must be respected in governance.
During his address, he acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of youth in bringing about current changes and requested ministry staff to observe a one-minute silence in memory of martyrs.
Earlier, Home Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha, along with the Inspector General of Nepal Police, the Inspector General of Armed Police Force Nepal, the Chief of the National Investigation Department, and other senior officials, welcomed the newly appointed Home Minister at the ministry in Singha Durbar.
