Rabi Lamichhane, Balen Shah in talks to finalize Cabinet ahead of swearing-in

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rabi Lamichhane, and parliamentary party leader Balen Shah are holding discussions to finalize the list of ministers for the new government.

The two leaders resumed talks after holding late-night discussions on Thursday, with further deliberations underway to give final shape to the Cabinet. With the Prime Minister’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for 12:34 pm on Friday at Shital Niwas, the party leadership is working to finalize 15 to 18 ministerial names beforehand.

Sources close to Shah said that the list prepared during Thursday night’s meeting still requires further consultation. Names including Swarnim Wagle, Shishir Khanal, Sobita Gautam, Indira Rana Magar, Asmita Pokharel, and Sunil Lamsal have been largely finalized, while discussions continue over other leaders.

Party leaders said efforts are being made to ensure balanced representation of women, indigenous groups, geography, and other social categories in the Cabinet.

Leaders are expected to finalize the Cabinet lineup by around 10 am, after which they will participate in the Prime Minister’s oath ceremony. The RSP had on Thursday unanimously elected Shah as its parliamentary party leader.
