Balen Shah to be sworn in as PM today



KATHMANDU: Nepal is preparing to usher in a new political leadership today, as Balendra (Balen) Shah is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister.

President Ram Chandra Paudel is expected to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Balen Shah, senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu this afternoon.

Prior to the ceremony, Shah’s appointment as Prime Minister will be formally announced. The new government will be formed in accordance with Article 76 (Clause 1) of the Constitution of Nepal.

According to the President’s Office, the swearing-in ceremony has been scheduled for the afternoon. Invitations have been extended to leaders of various political parties, representatives of diplomatic missions, members of civil society, and high-ranking government officials.

Ministers are also expected to be sworn in alongside the Prime Minister.

The RSP secured 182 seats in the House of Representatives elections held on March 5. The party elected Shah as its parliamentary leader on Thursday.
