Forest and environmental conservation must be prioritised: Agriculture Minister

JANAKPURDHAM: Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment Gita Chaudhary has stressed the need to give top priority to the conservation of forests, the environment, agriculture, water, land and natural resources.

Speaking at a discussion and tree plantation programme organised at the Sub-Division Forest Office in Dhanushadham Municipality, Dhanusha, Chaudhary said the survival of humanity depends on the protection of forests and the environment, urging all stakeholders to take responsibility for conserving natural resources.

She said infrastructure development alone would not make the country prosperous, adding that balanced progress in agriculture, forestry, water resources, land management and environmental protection is equally essential for national development.

Recalling the long-held slogans “Green forests are Nepal’s wealth” and “Nepal is an agricultural country,” the minister said the agriculture and forestry sectors had not received the priority they deserved. She added that the government remains committed to conserving natural resources by effectively implementing soil improvement programmes.

Chaudhary also said the government plans to establish one zoological park in each province. Under that plan, a zoo will also be built in Madhesh Province.
