POKHARA: The Pokhara-Sikles road has been obstructed by a landslide following continuous rainfall since Friday night.
The landslide occurred in the Padukhola area of Madi Rural Municipality-1, along the section between Khilang and Parche, blocking access to the popular tourist destination of Sikles.
Madi-1 Ward Chairperson Devi Jung Gurung said the landslide occurred on Saturday morning after heavy rain continued throughout the night. He added that the railing and slope structure constructed at Padukhola with the initiative of Madi Rural Municipality were also damaged.
Gurung said coordination was underway with the relevant authorities to remove the debris and reopen the road. “We are coordinating with the local hydropower project to arrange the equipment needed to clear the road, but we have not yet been able to establish contact,” he said. “We will now bring technical personnel from Pokhara and work to clear the landslide throughout the day.”
As the road may take some time to reopen, Gurung advised tourists planning to visit Sikles to postpone their trips until Sunday.
“It may take until Sunday to reopen the road. Therefore, we request tourists who have planned to visit Sikles to postpone their travel until then,” he said.
