PM to appear in Parliament within a week: RSP Chief Whip

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has informed the House that Prime Minister Balen Shah will appear in Parliament within a week.

Speaking during Tuesday’s second meeting of the House of Representatives, RSP Chief Whip Kabindra Burlakoti said the Prime Minister’s presence in the House had been assured amid continued obstruction by opposition lawmakers.

He said the Prime Minister’s attendance within a week would help create an environment for the smooth functioning of Parliament.

Following Burlakoti’s remarks, CPN-UML Deputy Parliamentary Party Leader Padma Aryal accused the ruling side of failing to present its position in line with the understanding reached at the Business Advisory Committee meeting chaired by the Speaker.

She said Parliament was not a platform to sing praises of the government and stressed that the opposition had fulfilled its responsibility of holding the government accountable.

Other opposition lawmakers also demanded a ruling from the Speaker’s chair regarding the Prime Minister’s attendance.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal then urged lawmakers to allow the House proceedings to continue smoothly, stating that information regarding the Prime Minister’s appearance had already been received from the RSP.

Following the Speaker’s appeal, opposition lawmakers lifted the obstruction and participated in discussions on the bill tabled in the House.
