KP Sharma Oli rejects inquiry report against him, calls it baseless

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has dismissed as baseless the recommendations made against him by the inquiry commission led by Gauribahadur Karki.

Speaking on Thursday at a program at the UML headquarters in Chyasal, Oli said the criminal charges recommended under Sections 181 and 182 of the Criminal Code 2017 lack judicial foundation.

“These sections require the individual to be present at the scene and directly involved in the incident, whether through action or negligence. If a person was not present, claiming negligence has no legal basis,” Oli said.

He added, “I have always maintained that a Prime Minister neither fires a weapon nor orders one to be fired. Yet, people died during this period—who is responsible?”

Oli criticized the recommendation as legally unsound, noting it came from former judges and senior police officials. He also stated that the UML’s 10th Central Committee had previously raised concerns about the commission’s members.

“These individuals had already expressed biased opinions against our party, delivered decisions in advance, and presented recommendations in a prejudiced manner. How can a report from such sources reflect factual truth?” he questioned.
