BP Highway reopens to traffic after landslide debris cleared

BANEPA: Traffic along the BP Highway resumed on Sunday evening after landslide debris was cleared from several sections of the road following days of incessant rainfall.

Traffic had remained disrupted since Saturday morning after heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday triggered landslides at multiple locations between Chaukidanda and Nepalthok in Kavrepalanchok district.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabin Bista, information officer at the District Police Office, the removal of landslide debris began on Sunday morning with the help of bulldozers. Security personnel and technical teams were also mobilised to clear the affected sections.

Traffic resumed after debris comprising stones, soil and mud washed down by a seasonal stream was removed from Pinthali in Roshi Rural Municipality-9. A landslide at Gimdibesi in Ward No. 8 of the same rural municipality was also cleared, allowing vehicles to move along the highway.
