8-year-old boy dies after being swept away by Kaligandaki River in Mustang



MUSTANG: An eight-year-old boy has died after being swept away by the Kaligandaki River near Kagbeni in Baragung Muktikshetra Rural Municipality-4.

According to the District Police Office Mustang, the deceased has been identified as Barun Gauli, who had accompanied a family group to Kagbeni for a Shraddha ritual.

Police said the incident occurred while the family was performing rituals for deceased ancestors, during which the child suddenly went missing in the river.

Following reports that the boy’s slippers were found near the riverbank, a search operation was launched by teams from the Kagbeni Police Post, District Police Office, and the Armed Police Force based in Jomsom.

Information Officer and Police Inspector Ishwor Mahat said the boy was found unconscious about one kilometer downstream from the ritual site.

He was rushed to the Provincial Hospital Jomsom for treatment, where doctors later declared him dead.
