KATHMANDU: Authorities have begun screening landless and squatter families relocated from the Thapathali riverbank settlement at Dasarath Rangasala, with officials collecting detailed records as part of the verification process.
Teams deployed by the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority and the Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee are currently registering families, including details of household heads and family composition.
According to administration chief Kavita K.C. Bogati, records of 23 families had been collected by early afternoon, and four families identified through the initial screening have been immediately relocated to Radha Soami Satsang Centre, Kirtipur as temporary shelter.
She said the government is ensuring food and accommodation for those moved to designated shelters.
“After identifying genuine squatter families, we are sending them to temporary shelters. All basic arrangements, including food and accommodation, are provided by the government,” she said.
Officials said that once temporary accommodation is arranged, the next phase will involve providing land solutions for verified families.
Following the demolition of illegal structures in Thapathali, displaced families were brought to the stadium with their belongings. However, officials said some individuals have left after refusing to stay in designated shelters.
Health services have also been deployed at the stadium, with a medical team from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City providing support to prevent health complications during the relocation process.
Meanwhile, authorities have completed the clearance of the Thapathali settlement, while similar eviction operations have begun in Sinamangal and Gairigaun areas, where residents are also relocating their belongings following government directives.
