Sher Bahadur Deuba says social media reports of cash at his home during Gen-Z protests were likely AI-generated

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has stated that social media claims about large amounts of cash found at his private residence during the Gen-Z protests on September 9, 2025, were AI-generated and not real.

In his statement to the high-level commission led by former Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, Deuba clarified that he did not file any police report regarding these claims, calling them a deliberate conspiracy, though he does not know who created them.

Deuba also confirmed he was at his home that day. He requested the removal of social media restrictions in Baluwatar that evening, which the then-Prime Minister implemented, but he did not attend any formal meetings.

The commission’s report also documents incidents of vandalism, arson, and assault at his residence, but Deuba emphasized that the social media narratives about cash were false and should not be taken as fact.
