Rabi Lamichhane denies involvement in prison letter issued after release

KATHMANDU: Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stated that he had no involvement in the preparation of a letter issued in his name during his release from Nakhhu Jail.

In his statement to a high-level probe commission formed to study the Gen-Z protests, Lamichhane said he neither participated in drafting nor signing the letter that was later circulated as having been issued from jail.

“Prison authorities were preparing to provide me with an official release letter, but before the document was finalized, a crowd took me outside the jail,” he said. “I later learned that a letter had been issued from jail, but I had no involvement in signing or preparing it. Therefore, the prison administration itself should be held accountable for the matter.”

However, a few days after Lamichhane left custody, Nakhhu Prison issued a public notice asking him to surrender.
