PM Karki calls for upholding election standards in future polls

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has emphasized that the standards set by the Election Commission (EC) during the House of Representatives (HoR) member election, 2026, should be upheld in the upcoming elections as well.

Speaking at a reception organized by the Election Commission at its office, Kantipath today, marking the completion of the House of Representatives member election, 2026, Prime Minister Karki stated that there should be no need for re-voting at any polling station across the country and that the standards of peaceful elections must be maintained in future polls.

“This election has enhanced Nepal’s image internationally, increased respect for the country, protected the constitutional system and democratic values, and promoted democracy,” said Prime Minister Karki.

Recalling that when she assumed office in September 2025, there was a legal and political vacuum along with security concerns, he said the election was successfully conducted despite those challenges, promoting democratic values in the process.

He added that although the election was difficult in the initial days, it was made possible by the determination of the Election Commission and the support of the government.

Referring to the ordinance issued after the election announcement, Prime Minister Karki noted that around one million young voters enthusiastically registered and participated in electing the people’s representatives. She also thanked the Election Commission for conducting a free, fair, impartial, and fearless election.
