Two injured, including suspect, in shooting near White House

WASHINGTON DC: Two people, including a suspect and a possible bystander, were injured in a shooting incident near the White House, according to US media reports citing law enforcement sources.

Sources told CBS News that the incident began after an individual allegedly fired shots at United States Secret Service personnel near the White House complex. Secret Service agents reportedly returned fire during the confrontation.

Kash Patel, director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, confirmed that the Secret Service was responding to the incident, according to BBC.

Video footage shared by ABC News correspondent Selina Wang showed journalists and bystanders taking cover as several gunshots rang out across the White House’s North Lawn area.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those injured, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
