KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has congratulated the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for securing the mandate to lead the government for the next five years.
Addressing the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting in Sanepa on Tuesday, Thapa said the party would play the role of a responsible opposition. “Congratulations to the RSP for getting the driving seat of the government for five years. We hope the government will run successfully,” he said.
He added that the Congress has been given a different and mature responsibility, stating that the party would work to hold the government accountable as the main opposition while extending constructive support to ensure the success of the RSP-led government.
Thapa also stressed the need for investigations into key controversies, including the Giribandhu case, the wide-body aircraft procurement case, and the alleged cash recovered from a leader’s residence.
He said the Giribandhu case had been linked to CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli, while also calling for an investigation into the alleged cash found at the residence of former Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba during the Gen-Z movement incidents of September 8 and 9, 2025.
Thapa further demanded a probe into the casualties on September 8 and the destruction on September 9, calling for action against those involved.
He also emphasized that the assets of all individuals who have held public office should be investigated to ensure accountability, adding that the Congress would fully support the RSP-led government in this regard.
