KAHTMANDU: The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has inspected 26 firms in a single day as part of its effort to curb illegal market practices during the election period and safeguard consumer rights.
The Department said it has intensified monitoring of businesses dealing in food items and fruits following complaints of hoarding, black marketing and price hikes under the pretext of the elections. Officials have urged traders to strictly comply with prevailing laws and regulations.
On Monday, a monitoring team conducted inspections in the Kuleshwor area. During the inspection, Ramesh Fruit Traders was asked to submit relevant business documents to the Department within three days after irregularities were observed. The remaining 25 firms were issued corrective instructions.
The Department stated that monitoring activities are being carried out in coordination with local representatives, consumer rights activists and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and market discipline.
