KATHMANDU: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has expelled seven leaders for running as candidates, or supporting and campaigning for candidates, contrary to the party’s official decisions and directives ahead of the general elections on March 5.
Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Co-Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal cited Article 106 of the party statute while announcing disciplinary action that removed the seven members from party membership.
The expelled leaders include Sindhuli’s Haribol Gajurel and Maheshwar Dahal, Haribol having served as Prachanda’s chief advisor when he was prime minister, and Kul Prasad KC from Dang. Former Lumbini Chief Minister Metmani Chaudhary also reportedly faced rebellion in Dang-2.
Other expelled leaders are Major Rai from Udayapur-2, and Dharmanath Sah, Rajkumari Sah, and Jibcha Sah from Siraha.
The party has warned that contesting against official candidates or engaging in such activities violates party discipline and urged members not to participate in similar actions in the future.
