Nepal defeats Kyrgyzstan in CAVA Women’s Volleyball

KATHMANDU: The Nepali national women’s volleyball team registered a dominant victory over Kyrgyzstan in the ongoing CAVA Women’s Volleyball Championship being held in Kathmandu.

In a match played on Saturday at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwar, Nepal defeated Kyrgyzstan 3–0 in straight sets to secure its first win of the tournament.

The victory has kept Nepal’s hopes of reaching the semifinals alive. The team had earlier lost its opening match against India 3–2 on Friday.

Nepal won the first set 25–18, followed by a 25–20 win in the second set, and sealed the match with a commanding 25–13 victory in the third set. Nepal’s Sumitra Regmi was declared Player of the Match.

With this win, Nepal has collected four points from two matches and moved to second place in Group A. Kyrgyzstan, meanwhile, has three points from two games.

Nepal will now face the Maldives in its final group-stage match on Sunday. A victory in that match will secure a place in the semifinals.

Group A includes Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, and India, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Iran, Bangladesh, and Kazakhstan.

In Sunday’s fixtures, Iran will face Sri Lanka in the first match, followed by Kazakhstan vs Bangladesh. Nepal’s match against the Maldives will be played at 5:00 PM.
