Trump announces five-day pause on strikes against Iranian infrastructure

KATHMANDU: U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a temporary halt to planned military strikes targeting Iran’s infrastructure, in a move aimed at easing rising tensions between the two countries.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said that the United States and Iran have held “very positive and productive” discussions over the past two days regarding ending ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.

He stated that he has directed a five-day pause on all planned military attacks targeting Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure, citing ongoing “serious and detailed” negotiations between the two sides.

“Based on the serious and detailed discussions currently underway between both sides, I have ordered a five-day halt to all military strikes on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure,” Trump said.

Earlier, Trump had warned that the U.S. would strike key energy facilities if Iran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.

In response, Iran had warned of strong retaliatory measures, including possible attacks on energy hubs and other sensitive infrastructure across West Asia if it were targeted, raising global concerns over a potential escalation.

Trump said future steps would depend on the outcome of the ongoing talks, which are expected to continue throughout the week. He expressed hope that the negotiations would lead to a full resolution of tensions between the two countries.
