Dedicated airport desk for NRNs, people of Nepali origin at TIA

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to set up a dedicated service desk at Tribhuvan International Airport for non-resident Nepalis and people of Nepali origin.

According to the Department of Immigration Nepal, the separate desk will be established at both arrival and departure sections of the airport to facilitate smoother services for Nepali-origin foreign nationals and non-resident Nepalis.

The move aims to strengthen their connection with Nepali language, culture, and identity, while also promoting tourism and investment in Nepal.

The department has formally instructed the Tribhuvan International Airport office to manage the dedicated desks, issuing a directive on Sunday.

The decision follows long-standing advocacy by the Association of Nepali Origin, which has been urging the government to introduce such a facility.

Welcoming the move, the association expressed gratitude to Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal and the Home Ministry.

In a statement issued by its president Dilli Adhikari, the organization said the decision has made Nepali-origin communities worldwide feel respected and valued.

“The implementation of this decision will help strengthen the emotional and cultural ties of Nepali-origin people with Nepal,” the statement said.
