SC orders original file in Durga Prasai habeas corpus petition
The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered the original file to be produced in connection with a habeas corpus petition filed by medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai. A joint bench of Justices Dr Nahakul Subedi and Meghraj Pokharel on Monday directed the Office of the Attorney General to present the original documents related to the case.
Special Court orders trial on general date for five, including former secretary, in Pokhara airport case
The Special Court has ordered that five high-ranking government officials, including former secretary Madhu Marasini, be tried on a general date in a corruption case linked to the construction of Pokhara Regional International Airport. A joint bench of judges Narayan Prasad Paudel, Hemant Rawal and Bidur Koirala issued the order on Monday from Bench No. 2 of the Special Court.
ANFA says efforts underway for Samba’s treatment
The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has said it has taken serious note of concerns expressed on social media by national women’s football team captain Sabitra Bhandari, popularly known as ‘Samba’, and clarified that necessary initiatives are underway regarding her injury and treatment. In a statement, ANFA described Bhandari as a pride and asset of Nepali football and assured that it is actively coordinating efforts to ensure proper medical care.
NC President Gagan Thapa unveils 9-point pledge for Sarlahi-4
Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has made public his election commitment as a candidate for the House of Representatives from Sarlahi Constituency-4. HoR polls: EC urges representatives to avoid campaigning
With only 10 days remaining before the election to the House of Representatives (HoR), the Election Commission (EC) has urged local-level people’s representatives not to take part in election campaigning. The Commission said the appeal was made to ensure a free, fair, impartial, transparent, economical and fear-free electoral environment. Referring to the implementation of the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, it reminded all stakeholders that strict compliance with the code is their responsibility.

A high-level meeting chaired by Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal was held following the bus accident in Dhading that claimed multiple lives early Monday morning. Election Commission receives 85 complaints, seeks clarifications under Code of Conduct
The Election Commission of Nepal has received 85 complaints so far under the election Code of Conduct, with 54 responses obtained from the concerned political parties and candidates. According to Mohan Raj Joshi, legal officer at the Commission, clarifications have been sought from 79 individuals so far, while six have been asked to provide further clarification. Complaints include alleged violations by political parties, candidates, government and non-government institutions, media outlets, and journalists. Registered media and associated journalists have been referred to Press Council Nepal for action and formal clarification.

Ishwar Pokhrel, a senior leader of the CPN-UML, has said the upcoming elections are crucial to bring the country back onto a democratic and constitutional track. Speaking to journalists during a door-to-door campaign in Handigaun on Monday, Pokhrel, who is contesting from Kathmandu Constituency No. 5, said the country is currently in an abnormal situation and the election holds special significance in restoring democratic and constitutional order.
Wave of defections hits RSP ahead of polls, leaders accuse party of bias and financial irregularities
A surge of defections has rocked the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) ahead of the upcoming March 5 elections, with leaders and cadres accusing the party leadership of discrimination in candidate selection and financial irregularities. From ward to central level, leaders and activists have been quitting the party in quick succession. Most of those leaving have joined the Nepali Congress, dealing a blow to RSP’s election campaign. The wave of dissatisfaction began after Dr. Pranay Shumsher Rana resigned from the party on February 12. Rana, who had secured third place for RSP in Kathmandu Constituency No. 5 during the 2022 House of Representatives elections, accused the party of manipulating its internal ‘primary’ election process.
Passenger rescued alive after five hours from Dhading bus wreckage
Krishna Raj Manandhar of Imadol, Lalitpur, who was trapped inside the wreckage of the bus (Ga 2 Kha 1421) that met with an accident in Dhading, was rescued alive after five hours. The accident occurred last night in Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality–5 of Dhading District. The bus, operated by Machhapuchhre Tours and Travels, was en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara when it crashed. According to Superintendent of Police Samit Khadka of the District Police Office, Manandhar had been trapped inside the severely damaged bus after it plunged off the road. Rescue personnel managed to pull him out alive by cutting through parts of the bus and he has been referred to Kathmandu for treatment.
Balen Shah unveils ‘Jhapa-5 pledge paper’, outlines sector-wise commitments
Senior Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) leader Balen Shah has unveiled his election manifesto from Jhapa Constituency-5, naming it the “Jhapa-5 Pledge Paper”. Shah, who is contesting the federal parliamentary seat from the constituency, said the document outlines the commitments he intends to fulfil in his capacity as a member of the House of Representatives. Under the section titled “My Commitment”, Shah has presented sector-wise plans covering education, infrastructure, agriculture and employment, women and children, and tourism and industry. He has also included point-wise commitments related to sports, health, land management, environment, good governance, and art and culture.
Home Minister Aryal meets UN Resident Coordinator Yahya
Om Prakash Aryal held a meeting with Lila Peters Yahya, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Nepal, at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday. During the meeting, Minister Aryal expressed gratitude to the United Nations for its continued support to Nepal in areas such as governance reform, climate change response and capacity building of local levels. He expressed confidence that cooperation between the Government of Nepal and the United Nations would further deepen in the coming days.
Gold price rises by Rs 3,200 per tola
The price of gold increased by Rs 3,200 per tola on Monday. According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association , the price of fine gold has been fixed at Rs 313,500 per tola for today. On the previous trading day, gold was traded at Rs 310,300 per tola. Earlier, on January 29, gold had reached an all-time high of Rs 339,000 per tola.
Curfew imposed in Birgunj Metropolitan area following clash
The District Administration Office, Parsa, has imposed a curfew in the Birgunj Metropolitan City area following a clash between two groups of youths on Sunday evening. According to the administration, the curfew has come into effect from 9:45 am Monday until further notice, considering the prevailing security situation after the incident. Chief District Officer Bhola Dahal said the curfew has been enforced within a defined perimeter — from Bypass Road in the east, Sirsiya River in the west, Gandak Chowk in the north, and Shankaracharya Gate in the south.
