Disgruntled RSP leader Parajuli returns to Nepali Congress

MAKWANPUR: Founder Chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Makwanpur, Bharat Prasad Parajuli, has left the party and rejoined the Nepali Congress.

Parajuli was welcomed into the Nepali Congress by Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa at a program held in Sarlahi on Monday morning. He had previously been a member of the Nepali Congress before joining the RSP.

In the 2022 House of Representatives election, Parajuli had contested as an RSP candidate from Makwanpur-2, securing over 12,000 votes. A resident of Manahari Rural Municipality in Makwanpur, he is considered a strong leader in the western part of the district.

Parajuli reportedly became dissatisfied after he was overlooked for the party ticket in the upcoming election, which was instead given to a late entrant. His decision comes amid wider discontent within RSP, as several party workers expressed frustration over sidelining leaders who had contributed to party-building in Makwanpur.

Speaking after joining the Nepali Congress, Parajuli said he felt he could not pursue meaningful politics within RSP. “I worked hard to expand RSP’s organisation, but the party is not meant for those who work sincerely. I returned to Nepali Congress as I could not remain in a party with a capitalist mindset,” he stated.
