Kathmandu records 9 degrees Celsius minimum temperature this morning

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu’s minimum temperature was recorded at 9.0 degrees Celsius at 5:45 am today, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

At the same time on Sunday, the minimum temperature stood at 9.1 degrees Celsius and remained unchanged during the 8:45 am measurement. Today’s official minimum temperature will also be determined at 8:45 am, and it may drop slightly further by then.

Over the past few days, temperatures have fluctuated. The minimum temperature was 7.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday, while it was relatively higher at 12 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Meteorologists explain that when the sky remains cloudy overnight, the morning minimum temperature tends to be higher. Conversely, clear skies throughout the night usually result in lower morning temperatures. In contrast, maximum temperatures behave differently: they decline when the day remains cloudy and rise when skies are clear and sunny.

Despite these daily variations, meteorologists say overall temperatures are gradually increasing as the winter season nears its end.

The Division records minimum and maximum temperatures daily across the country, including in Kathmandu. The minimum temperature, indicating conditions from night to early morning, is measured at 8:45 am, while the maximum temperature, reflecting daytime conditions, is recorded at 5:45 pm.
