CPN-UML accuses Rastriya Swatantra Party of attempting to disrupt elections

KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has accused the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) of trying to disrupt the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. In a statement released on Saturday, UML said that as the election date approaches, the country is increasingly becoming tense and fearful.

The party criticized the government for failing to ensure a safe, fair, and transparent election environment. UML highlighted that certain groups have intensified activities such as burning flags with the “Sun” election symbol and spreading hatred against party leadership, actions it described as attempts to plunge the country into electoral conflict.

UML called on the government and relevant authorities to ensure peace and security, warning that the country faces serious risks of unrest designed to influence voters. The party emphasized that its candidates continue to engage with the public patiently and calmly despite difficult circumstances.

According to UML, recent incidents include the dissemination of fake survey results, provocative acts in several districts, and attempts to incite violence when electoral outcomes are unlikely to favor RSP. UML pointed out the Gaur incident in Rautahat, where an indefinite curfew was imposed, as a concrete example of attempts to create communal divisions.

The party also expressed concern over violations of the election code of conduct, citing examples like distribution of T-shirts bearing the name and symbols of certain parties during the Holi festival, criticizing the Election Commission’s apparent inaction in these matters.

UML asserted that the Rastriya Swatantra Party is actively attempting to disrupt the election by burning party flags and symbols and spreading unrest across multiple districts.
