RSP leaders begin internal preparations for government formation

KATHMANDU: Top leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party have begun internal discussions and preparations for forming a new government.

The move comes after the Election Commission of Nepal handed over certificates to proportional representation lawmakers and submitted the report of the House of Representatives elections 2026 to the Office of the President of Nepal.

RSP Vice-President Swarnim Wagle said on Thursday evening that the party has started internal preparations for forming a new government, which is expected to be established on March 28.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat of Nepal has scheduled the oath-taking ceremony for all lawmakers on March 26.

Two days later, senior RSP leader Balen Shah is preparing to take the oath as prime minister, according to party leaders.

Before that, the party will need to amend its statute to appoint Balen as the parliamentary party leader.

RSP is preparing to hold a party meeting on Saturday to amend its statute and select the parliamentary party leader.
